Beirut & Environs

Day 1: Beirut
Upon your arrival at the Beirut airport meet and greet by our representative. Transfer to the hotel in Beirut for overnight.

Day 2: Beirut - Cedars – Bsharre – Qadisha – Byblos
We leave the coast and drive into the mountains towards the “God’s Cedar Forest”, a natural reserve where the oldest Cedar trees of the country can be found. In Bsharre we visit the museum dedicated to the poet and writer Gibran Khalil Gibran and stroll around the mountain resort. Descend into the Qadisha Valley, for a walk into this deep and beautiful valley, visiting a monastery en route . We continue to Byblos, whose history goes back to some 4000 years, revealing the vestige of the several civilizations that have occupied it from the Stone Age to the Phoenicians, from the Romans to the Crusaders. Back to Beirut.

Day 3: Anjar – Baalbek – Beirut
After crossing the Mt. Lebanon mountain pass we descend into the Bekaa Valley. Here we visit the only still existing Umayyad site: Anjar. After that we head for the Ksara winery to taste wine and have a quick look at “its treasures” hidden in rock carved caves; a reminder of Bacchus, the god of wine. His temple is found some 40 km to the north in Baalbek. Built between 50-150 AD Baalbek’s acropolis is one of the largest in the world and here we see also the Temples of Jupiter and Venus. Return to Beirut.

Day 4: Beirut – Tyre – Sidon
Visit downtown of Beirut and walk on the green line which divided Beirut in two parts: east and west. At the Corniche we have a look at the Pigeon Rocks; then we walk to the new city center with the Place de l’Etoile and Martyr’s Square. Along the coast we drive to Tyre to visit the Egyptian Port, the Roman Necropolis and the well preserved Roman Hippodrome. In Sidon, once the most important Phoenician cities on the Mediterranean coast, we view the Sea Castle, the renovated khans and the old souks. Return to Beirut

Day 5: Beirut
