Highlights of Ancient Cities

Day 1: Arrival Amman – Petra Overnight
Upon arrival at Queen Alia Airport our representative will meet and assist you through immigration procedures. Drive to the hotel in Petra for overnight.

Day 2: Petra
Today we discover the red-rose rock city Petra, which was established around the 6th century BC by the Nabataean Arabs. You ride on horse back to the siq and then walk to the Treasury, Pharaoh's Castle, the Amphitheater and the Monastery El Deir. Overnight in hotel.

Day 3: Petra – Dead Sea – Mt. Nebo – City Tour Amman
In the morning we drive to the Dead Sea, the lowest point on earth. We head for Mount Nebo to visit an old church and to overlook the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, Jericho and Jerusalem. After reaching Amman you will enjoy a city tour in Jordan's capital. We visit the Amphitheater, the Citadel and the King Abdullah Mosque. Overnight in Amman.

Day 4: Amman – Jerash – Syrian Border – Bosra Overnight
We drive in the north of Jordan to visit Jerash, the best preserved Roman provincial city in the Middle East. Then, further in the north we cross the border to Syria, where you will be met by our representative and transferred to Bosra. The city was the Roman capital for the Arabic region. We see the remains of temples, palaces, high columns and mosques made of dark basaltic stones. Highlight in Bosra is the magnificent amphitheater dating back to the second century. Transfer to Hotel for overnight.

Day 5: Bosra – Maaloula – Apamea – Aleppo Overnight
Maaloula is a rocky village located in Al Qalamoon mountains, which houses cling on hills of limestone. The old Aramaic language is still used here and we visit the famous monasteries St. Sergius and St. Tekla. Next stop is Apamea wit its charming ruins, old houses and big churches dating back to the 5th and 6th centuries. Transfer to hotel in Aleppo.

Day 6: St. Simeon Church – Aleppo City Tour
Today you visit the St. Simeon Church honoring the Christian saint Simeon who lived over 30 years on a pillar. Back in Aleppo we view the Citadel, the biggest, oldest and most impressive monument in Aleppo. The Citadel is situated at the center of the city on a hill about 40 meter high. We also visit the Great Mosque, the Aleppo Museum, suqs and khans.

Day 7: Aleppo – Hama – Palmyra Overnight
We drive to Hama to see the popular waterwheels, and further on to Crac des Chevaliers. This is the most famous Crusader castle. It stands proudly on a volcanic crater and overlooks the Bekaa plain, Homs and Lattakia. Drive to Palmyra for overnight.

Day 8: Palmyra
Start your visit of ancient Palmyra, located in an oasis, and Syria's most famous tourist attraction. Amongst other monuments you view the castle, the theater, the Nabu Temple, the Temple of Bel, the supreme Palmyrene god, and tombs. Overnight in hotel.

Day 9: Palmyra – Damascus Overnight
After arriving Damascus we visit the National Museum of Syria, housing an incredibly rich collection of antiquities from every era. Later, on the Kassioun Mountain, the house mountain of the capital, we watch the sunset. Overnight in Damascus.

Day 10: Damascus
On your today's program will be the Azem Palace, a jewel of 18th century Damascus architecture, the Umayyad Mosque and Salah al-Dins mausoleum. Besides you visit the ancient Hananya Church and St. Paul's Church, which marks the site where St. Paul escaped from the city avoiding persecution.

Day 11: Border to Lebanon – Anjar – Baalbek – Beirut Overnight
After crossing the border between Syria and Lebanon we drive to Anjar. In this Armenian town in the Bekaa Valley we find well preserved ruins from the 8th century. Then we drive to the magnificent Roman ruins of Baalbek, one of the world's greatest historical sites. Its columns are the tallest ever erected and its stones the largest ever used. Transfer to Beirut for overnight.

Day 12: Harissa – Byblos – Beirut
In the morning we visit Harissa, the 8.5 meter high statue of Virgin Mary watching over the bay of Jounieh. After that we drive to Byblos at the Mediterranean coast, having the oldest port in the world. See the Crusader Castle, the Phoenician rampart, the Obelisk Temple and the Temple of the war god Resheph. Overnight in Beirut.

Day 13: Beirut – Sidon – Tyre – Beirut
In the National Museum in Beirut we see the unique collection of Phoenician, Greek and Roman sarcophagi and jewelry. After that we visit the former Phoenician cities Sidon, 48 km south of Beirut, and Tyre. In Sidon we visit the popular Sea Castle and in Tyre, established in 2759 BC, the famous Roman Hippodrome. Back to Beirut for overnight.

Day 14: Departure
Transfer to the airport Beirut for your departure.
